The Union City HS Hillers got a good effort from starter Josh Brown in defeating the James River HS Rapids at Union City HS & Athletic Complex. The final score was 1-0. Brown yielded no runs over 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 1-1. Don Williams picked up the save for Union City HS, his 10th of the year.
The Rapids had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Hillers going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 17-year old left fielder Ralph Aldridge came to the plate. Aldridge hit a run-scoring double on a full count fastball from James River HS hurler Ed Bell. It was Aldridge's 4th double of the year.
"I had everything working," said Brown.
Union City HS now owns a record of 19-8.
