Panthers Suffer 6-5 Home Defeat
|
The James River HS Rapids knocked off the DeSoto Central HS Panthers, 6-5, in Eastern League action at DeSoto Central Grounds. James River HS pitcher and Virginia Beach, Virginia, native Pat Berry had an outstanding performance. Berry, the winner, moves to 1-2. He threw 5.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 1 and giving up 1 walk. Valentín Mejía collected save number 3.
Chris Armstrong had a big 2-run double for the Rapids in the top of the sixth inning. With James River HS leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 15-year old left-handed pitcher Steve Romero and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Rapids ahead, 4-1.
James River HS manager Matt Reyna was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
James River HS is now 6-14, DeSoto Central HS 14-6.
