Akira Lick Zephyrs, 2-1
|
The Neo-Tokyo Akira turned back the Reno Zephyrs, 2-1, at Washoe Field. Jesús Ortíz, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. P.J. Henry picked up the save, his 15th. By defeating Reno, the last-place Akira improved to 57-87.
With Neo-Tokyo leading 1-0 in the top of the fifth, Ortíz hit a fastball from Tony Day for a run-scoring double. It was his 18th double of the season and put the Akira ahead, 2-0.
"The old adage is true," said Ortíz. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
