The Portland Chinook and starting pitcher Ricardo Rico stifled the Long Beach offense en route to a comfortable 8-1 win at Kauffman Stadium. The winner in relief was Il-hwan Yun. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 5-4. The Chinook, at 54-42, sit in second place in the Humboldt.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Willie Wilson came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Long Beach pitcher Kieran Ogg, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Portland on top, 2-1.

"Ricardo made some big pitches when he needed to," said Chinook manager Artie Herman.
