The James River HS Rapids satisfied the home crowd at Rapids Ballpark, treating them to a season-opening win, 3-2, over the Carrollton HS Brawlers. Starting Pitcher Julián Castillo was the standout performer for James River HS. Valentín Mejía collected his 1st save.

Had Dan MacLeverty not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, MacLeverty hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Rapids.

"We were in it," said Carrollton HS manager Jesús Méndez. "We just didn't score enough runs."
