Archers Claim Late Win
|
Benefiting from Goro Sawada's productive game, the Iowa Archers downed the Notre Dame Evangelists, 6-3. Sawada went 4-4 with 4 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Archers. The winning pitcher was Karl Cook. His record now stands at 4-1. The right-hander went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits for the Archers. Clark Jones earned the save for Iowa, his 15th of the year.
The game was all tied up in the bottom of the eighth, until Sawada delivered big-time for Iowa, stroking a dramatic 2-run single off Marty Talley. The game-changing hit put the Archers on top, 5-3.
"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Sawada. "It sure beats the alternative."
Iowa, now 31-24, holds down third place in the Perfect 10 Conference.
