Bears Get Hard-Earned Win
|
Shin Seiki pitcher Jonathan Huffman gave the Bears all they could handle, but in the end, Bakersfield left The Oaks at Aera Field with a win, 2-1. Huffman allowed no runs on 2 hits over 5 innings. The win was credited to 25-year old right-handed pitcher Ánibal Gallegos in relief. His record improves to 3-7. Bob Cowan took the loss. Bakersfield now owns a record of 56-84.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Bakersfield designated hitter Joe Riley, facing Bob Cowan, had a run-scoring hit-by-pitch. It gave the Bears the 2-1 win.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Shin Seiki manager Yoritomo Masuda. "We just didn't cash in."
