Win Goes to Apollos in Tight Contest
|
The Tempe Apollos welcomed the Bakersfield Bears to an night game at The Oaks at Aera Field.
The Tempe Apollos racked up a win at The Oaks at Aera Field, bumping off the Bakersfield Bears, 5-2. Félix Rosales, who started for Tempe, pitched effectively for his team. The save went to Fortunato Carona, number 14 for him.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman António Herrera came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Bakersfield pitcher Héctor Cruz, he hit a first pitch curveball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Tempe on top, 4-2.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Herrera told the Tempe Herald.
With this game in the books, Tempe is 33-30, Bakersfield 19-44.
