Reno, Nevada. – Ramon Leach was drafted in the second round of the 2013 Amateur Draft out of United States Collegiate Baseball Association. He played four seasons with the Washington Montlake Malamutes.  He was selected by the Kentucky Thoroughbreds with the 47^th overall pick.  Ramon quickly rose through the Kentucky minor league system before being traded to the Reno Zephyrs in 2015 along with 3B Kurt Keller and a 4th round draft pick, in exchange for Reno’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks.  The trade signaled to the fans in Reno that the organization was ready to compete for a playoff spot.  Leach made his PEBA debut the in 2016 and immediately became an impressive power/speed threat.  He stole more than 30 bases and hit in more than 30 home runs five different times in his career.  His most impressive power/speed season came in 2017 when he hit 50 home runs while swiping 42 bags. 

Leach retired from the league following the 2027 season.  He played 12 seasons with Reno and accumulated 384 home runs, 1193 RBI and 342 stolen bases.  The Reno front office approached him the day he announced his retirement with an open offer to come back and work in some capacity.  After a few meetings, it was decided that Leach would become a minor league manager. 

Ramon Leach will take over as the Glendale Skyelanders manager in 2028. He joins former teammates Tony Carmona and Antonio Morales as former players turned coaches.  Carmona is serving as the Zephyrs Bench Coach and Morales will be the Skyelanders Hitting Coach. 

“I enjoyed every minute I played in the league,” said Leach when asked about his new role.  “I always reminded myself that playing baseball for a living is a dream come true and should never be taken for granted.  I feel truly blessed to be able to continue my life in baseball, only now as a manger.”

It is unclear exactly what style Leach will employ as a new manager but he showed high leadership qualities as a player and he was very loyal to the Reno organization throughout his career.  Lets hope that transfers well as a manger.
