Manuel Torres may just be the PEBA’s best looking player. Check out his photo in a Frozen Bullies uniform. Such posture and poise. The sunshine bringing out the highlights of green and brown in his eyes. How perfect his uniform fits him, as if fitted by a tailor who is considered an expert by his peers. You cannot argue … your eyes do not deceive you … Manuel Torres is the prettiest man in the PEBA.
Manuel was born to Jose “Chegui” Torres and an underaged Jessica “Asia Carrera” Steinhauser. Manuel inherited the strength and grace of his father along with the beauty and passion of his mother. Such a combination of a most unlikely couple, no one could have predicted the relationship or the result.
Jose was a hard nosed brutal boxer in the 1960s before Jessica was born. He enjoyed brawling and beating unsuspecting pokes in the local establishments. Jose was the one you feared would snap after having a few too many tequilas.
Jessica on the other hand had a different passion. At an early age she discovered how to gain the attention of many. She adored being the center of attention and loved to flaunt her beauty.
At an early age Manuel was sought after by ad agencies and Hollywood alike. The powers that be were sure he was what this country’s inhabitants desired to be, the one to appear in all the popular movies – the child star of all stars. While his mother did not allow him to experience movie stardom, he did participate in countless competitions and pageants.
Manuel grew tired of being “pretty” as he neared the college years. Wanting to leave this all behind him, he decided to try his hands at baseball at Central Florida. His first two years he spent on the practice squad, throwing batting practice to the much more physically gifted players. After the 2006 season, Manuel grew up. He decided what it is he really wanted in life and he set his wheels in motion by strength training and studying Greg Maddux and John Smoltz, two of the best pitchers in history. When the 2007 season came around, Manuel found himself in the Wicked Witches’ starting rotation, where he went 4-2 with a 2.10 ERA, 16 walks and 109 strikeouts in 68 innings over 12 starts. Was he dreaming? Hardly … in 2008 he had similar results: 9 starts, 2.84 ERA, 17 walks and 77 strikeouts in 44 innings.
Manuel arrived. He succeeded in leaving his childhood beauty pageants for life in the PEBA. He entered the first year player draft and was selected in the first round as the 21st player by the Kentucky Thoroughbreds. Currently he is 5-0 in 9 games started with an ERA of 0.64 in 70 innings. His future looks bright, especially since Kentucky is hurting for good pitchers. His mother Jessica attends most of his games and is very popular in the clubhouse and with owner Bill Shatner. Yet still his beauty continues to shine in that purple and white uniform.
