Last Minute Deal Reached Between Trendsetters and Delaware State Assembly

Wilmington, DE –

March 18, 2041

Members of the Delaware State Assembly announced to day that they had reached a deal to extend the lease of the Delaware Diamonds by an extra year, in time for the start of the 2041 season. The team had been actively pursuing other options after Delaware officials had failed to reach an agreement on a new stadium for the AA Delaware Diamonds.

Said Trendsetters General Manager Chuck Valenches, “I am happy to continue working with the Delaware Diamonds front office and the state assemblypersons. It is no secret that the old Ballpark of Delaware does not meet current Great Northern Standards. The field is run down, the training facilities has multiple wasps nests and a den of Coyotes live by the bullpen. To continue to develop New Orleans PEBA players, we have to have a stadium that is up to code and that players feel safe playing on.” Officials will continue to negotiate with the team and the league, but the Delaware Legislature has made it fairly clear that there is little money left in the state budget after the state passed a funding bill for the new three billion dollar curling stadium in hopes of attracting a team to the yet to be created Curling Association of Continental America (CACA). The Delaware Diamonds have played at the Ballpark of Delaware since 2007, reaching the playoffs just four time in 34 years and winning zero championships.

New Orleans team personnel were cagey when asked where the team might go if no deal is reached saying just that they hoped that they can work things out with the state, but that they won’t be sending their dry cleaning out in September. “It’s a tough situation for the state. I realize that” said Valenches, but we have our players to think of and those coyotes present a legitimate rabies threat. The clubhouse has three hornets nest. Ants eat the players post game spread before they can even shower and there has been no hot water since 2029. Let’s face it, the fans don’t show anymore. You could go into the stands during a game and hold archery practice and not endanger anybody.”

The 2041 season could see a number of prospects move through the club throughout the season. There is a good possibility that last years first round pick, Harold “Hulk! Smash!” Belafonte may start the year in Delaware while Diamonds all time home run leader, Bert Wakeham is scheduled to start the season in Delaware for the upcoming season.

Fans are encouraged to call or go online to order tickets for Opening Day this April and a reminder that fans who help clean the stadium after the game can take home unlimited left over hot dogs.
