John Mayer Day at Doyle Buhl Stadium

john_mayer_2013_promoAugust 15, 2013: Duluth, MN – The Duluth Warriors are proud to announce the third in a series of promotional baseball card giveaways at Doyle Buhl Stadium.  This promotion, sponsored by Kraft Foods, will celebrate young outfielder John Mayer on Saturday, August 31st.

The native Canadian came to the Warriors in an off-season deal with the West Virginia Coal Sox for former second round pick Seth Peterson.  Save for an off year in 2010 at AA, the third round selection out of South Caldwell HS made rapid progress through the minor leagues.  His .340 batting average over 650 plate appearances in 2011 and 2012 stated that he was ready for a shot at the big show.  However, a logjam of similar players in West Virginia left his services available to other teams.

The new Bong/McKenzie regime recognized Mayer’s potential early on and were persistent in their attempts to acquire the slick-hitting lefty.  The trade has paid immediate dividends for the Warriors; Mayer’s .307 batting average leads the team.  “He has been a consistent performer in the top third of the batting order of us this year,” said GM Bill McKenzie.  “I couldn’t be more pleased with his play this year.  Johnny was a great acquisition for the Warriors.”

To celebrate the breakout success of this 24-year-old left fielder, the Duluth Warriors will be giving out special limited edition digitally signed baseball cards to the first 15,000 fans at Doyle Buhl Stadium on Saturday, August 31st.  Come watch the Warriors anchor the Longshoremen and take home a little piece of history – your very own 2013 limited edition John Mayer baseball card.
