How to Warm Up a Long, Baseball-less Winter
Wednesday, January 26, 2011
It’s been a long offseason, a long and cold winter without baseball. Perhaps it’s the particularly chilly weather, but for some reason this offseason has seemed longer than most. There’s been a palpable sense of impatience amongst fans that this reporter has spoken with. As the dreary snow blankets the landscape, people are getting stir crazy waitnig for pitchers and catchers to report.
Perhaps it will do them good, then, to know that they’re not alone. The players feel it, too. You may think that fat paychecks and the grind of a 162-game schedule would deflate their enthusiam, but at heart these athletes are still kids who grew up loving the game. That passion dies hard, and they’re just as ready for the resumption of baseball as you and I.
Of course, some players are more passionate than others… perhaps too passionate, one might argue after watching the video that was posted this morning on Pat Lilly‘s Facebook page. In the video, Lilly joins Octávio Pexego, Conan McCullough, Markus Hancock and John Roach in imitating a Chippendales dance routine. Stir crazy, indeed.
All five players are known to train together at StrengthWorks Gym, near Hancock’s home in Tempe, AZ. One presumes they got a little bored with all that iron-pumping and decided to find an alternate outlet for their energies. I’ll leave it to their publiscits to decide if they found the right avenue of expression. In the meantime, enjoy the performance after the bump…
