Duluth sacks Pitching Coach Dallas Pollard; “Rainmaker” Thomas Promoted
In a brief announcement that ran the social media circuit this morning, Warriors management announced that 6-year franchise coach Dallas Pollard was terminated five years before the expiration of his contract.
“We wish Dallas and his family well in the future. Given the frustrations at the mound for Duluth this season, there was mutual agreement that the time had come to part ways.”
Pollard, meanwhile, took to Minnesota talk radio this morning in a blistering lambast of GM Ricky McCoy and the Warriors management.
“Five years with this organization,” Pollard lamented on KWAR, the independent baseball talk show in Duluth, “and I’m left holding the bag because the Pharisees in the Front Office dished out eighty million dollars for the Lake Superior Old Folks Brigade.”
Rene Padilla, the rising star of Duluth’s staff who has drastically underperformed this season, seems to be at the center of the decision. The Costa Rican discovery and pitching phenom has an ERA of 5.79 headed into July, with a wake of tepid pitching behind him in the order. Much of this is likely due to a truly abysmal defensive squad, chalking one of the lowest defensive efficiencies in the league after the recently-reacquired Shortstop Henry Davis was injured for the season.
Duluth seems to be active in improving their defensive situation, signing multiple infielders in the last week and rumored to be in trade talks with multiple organizations following the recent amateur draft.
Julian “Rainmaker” Thomas, a former 5-time PEBA All-Star, has been promoted from Duluth’s rookie affiliate, the Suwon Morning Swords. He was unavailable for comment.
“Ricky McCoy can rot in hell,” Pollard told KWAR at the conclusion of his tirade. “I have my million dollars, and all they have is a $170 Million ship skippered by an alcoholic lunatic.”
