OBWL - Fantasy Basketball

#1 Post by Jason »

Those of you who have known me since I took over the Cyclones in 2011 (PEBA date) realize I came over from the now defunct Online Basketball Association (OBA).

This was a fictional, fantasy basketball league, much like PEBA, in a realm of its own. The commissioner, put a lot of time and effort into building an experience for those who loved basketball that was second to none. I was a member for over five real years (it might have been longer). There was over 15 years of "fictional history." It was a sad day when it shut it's doors.

Since it's closure, one of our previous GM's, Ben Johnson, has started a new league. It is called the Online Basketball World League (OBWL). For those who are interested, it can be found at www.theobwl.com. The engine (like OOTP is to PEBA), is "Jumpshot Basketball (JSB). There are a lot of things wrong with this software. However, in terms of what the league is trying to accomplish, it is the best option available.

The downside is the JSB HTML output. It is terrible. So, in a painstaking process, Ben has started to create his own web pages, parcing out the data that JSB spits out, into more coherant and visually appealing pages. The process in painstaking, and mind numbing. However, he is committed to doing it.

The reason why I am writing all of this is that I hope you guys can support this league. If you are interested in joining, contact Ben. We are always looking for talented GM's, as well as guys who are dedicated to making the league a better community. This includes great writers.

Recently, I penned my first article in a while. You can find it here Our first season in OBWL was 2011, and I actually referenced the 2011 PEBA season in the article. I hope you like it.

Missed this first time round, Looks good! I'll keep an eye on this, unfortunately I know nothing about basketball so I wouldn't be much good at running a team :(

FYI:

Now that we have a PEBA Facebook page (which is awesome way to stay on top of news and advertise the league), I feel compelled to let everyone know about the www.theobwl.com FB page.

Feel free to like it as well. It is updated more often IN season with game highlights. However, sometimes articles are featured there as well. Find it here and say hello:

I missed this one earlier. I play in an online college basketball league that runs along pretty well. My beloved Louisville Cardinals won the NC last year (synchronicity, eh?). Here's the article I wrote about that team.

If you like college basketball, there are always teams available.

How many people are in this league? It looks like Fast Break College Basketball? Do you need to own the game?

If Maryland ever opens up (my alma mater), let me know...

You do need to own the game...it's maybe $30. Human participation runs from 20-50 over the years. There are, what, 370? D1 teams. So there is always room for more. :)

BUMP

We have had a few long time, veteran GM's decide real life is more important than fake life. Therefore, there are currently two openings in OBWL to manage a fictional, professional fantasy team.

We also have a D-League if we fill up the missing spots. We use this as a waiting list for GM's to get acquainted to the league, game planning, and writing.

PM me if you are interested. The league is LEGIT.
