Featherheads... Finally a Patch of Sun?

#1 Post by klewis »

After a season of disappointment, the sun is finally shining on the Florida Featherheads, who look to take momentum from their recent winning ways into the final month of the season. After losing seven straight, the “Fheads”, as they are affectionately know by their loyal fan base, surprised even themselves winning seven of their next 8 ball games.

The run has been buoyed by the return of OF Colin Rodmell, who spent 3 months on the DL with a leg injury. Rodmell, Florida’s highest paid player and biggest power threat, was sorely missed during the dog days of summer. Another spark was provided by the PEBA debut of rookie SS Kevin McNeill. McNeill’s addition to the roster brought some much need days off to Fhead star SS, Mark Richardson, who, due to Rodmell’s injury, has carried the team on his back. The heavy load exhausted Richardson.

More importantly, during those off days, Richardson put his name on the dotted line of a new 3-year contract extension, joining young OF sensation Kwang-chih Zhu, who also signed a 3- year extension. Zhu, slated for a year at AAA, was pressed into PEBA duty when Rodmell when down early in the season, and despite a propensity to swing and miss three times per at bat, has put up respectful number for a 20 year old.

Florida is looking to the future as all three minor league teams are in first place or within striking distance of the lead in their respective divisions.
