The Semaphore has just learned that Codgers starting third baseman Mike Titcombe has been traded to the Charleston Statesmen in return for a pair of minor league pitchers and a cash payment.
The 31 year old Titcombe, signed to a one-year deal for almost 2.7 million dollars, hit .233 with Palm Springs this season, racking up eight home runs and 35 RBIs and striking out 75 times. He had recently been demoted to a platoon situation, sharing the third base duties with Scott Brown, 25.
In addition to 1.3 million dollars--nearly half of Titcombe's salary--the Codgers received AA starter Yu-zeng Fong and Single-A starter Aaron Lapp, regarded as good but not great prospects by baseball insiders.
"Neither one of them will overpower you, but they've both got a chance to carve out a spot in the majors eventually," said one scout.
Team officials were not immediately available for comment.
