More Republican zaniness

#1 Post by Matt »

I do have to say I love the fact that they actually think absolutely nothing through, and contradict themselves at every turn.

My favorite right now is Glenn Beck, the raving psychopath who is constantly quoting Thomas Paine. Which is completely hilarious because Thomas Paine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Paine) was damned near a Marxist. If Beck had ever bothered to actually READ Paine, he would discover that Paine believed in absolutely nothing that conservatives "believe in". Of course, being able to misquote (or lie about) a liberal for their own personal gain and the grandiose inflation of their narcissitic egos is a right wing specialty. And as always, they succeed in proving nothing more than thier own ignorance. Bravo.

There is certainly a lot of Republican awfulness, to go along with an abundance of Liberal awfulness. But the one thing I would say about these rallies is that they are not Republican events. The head of the GOP asked to be allowed to speak at one of them and was refused by the organizer. If anything, these things are more Libertarian and anti-establishment on both sides.

Wait what I'm not republican I'm just pointing out its as stupid to characterize republicans based on these people as it is to criticize dems based on the loons on their side on the fence.

I didn't characterize them based on their beliefs. I characterized Beck, and I will include that pig O'Reilly, that in the closet flaming butt ranger Hannity, and the hillbilly herion addict Limbaugh, based on the fact that they will whip their imbecilic listeners into a frenzy with nothing but hogwash. These are the idiots who have drummed up the support for this ridiculous "protest". Fox News (puke) has done nothing but fan the flames of this idiocy.

These clowns make a living because too many people in this country sit in front of the TV or listen to the radio being told what to think and they aren't smart enough to know when their being had. If their clones are getting worked into a frenzy because of some quotes of Payne, it just shows their gullibility. And it is in general a very poor reflection on the quality of education in this country if they actually believe Paine would have supported any of the ideas of Beck.

You seem like you really enjoy making ad hominem attacks.

Do you have anything to say about what the people at the rallies are actually protesting?

Yes. Their complete morons. As I said above, they have been whipped into this frenzy based on the unadulterated bullshit of a few talking head cases.

Well yeah there's idiots who believe everything they see/hear, but that is usually because it reinforces what they already believe. Do you seriously not believe there are people like that on the democratic side of the fence?

I'd be curious to see what a person who attacks Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly thinks about Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann.

Just to be clear here, I have no problem with a post talking about how dumb these people are. That wouldn't really make me angry or excited because whatever its just pointing out the obvious just like anyone can point out those liberal students at NYU are idiots as well. My problem is when an argument is reduced to black and white and all people on one side or the other of the argument are demonized by the other side based on the stupidity of a few.

Fwiw, I love Rachel Maddow. She is clearly one of the most intelligent, witty, and well spoken political commentators on the scene.

I liked Olberman when he took on the true axis of evil, Rove, Cheney, and Bush, but I've always felt Olberman is much too full of himself, and that goes back to his days at ESPN. While I agree with him on a political level, his personality rubs me the wrong way.

Well I think we can all agree that Olbermann is unpleasant. At least Maddow or Beck don't speak in an poorly done Shakespearean accent for dramatic purposes.
