Dennis Haysbert

#1 Post by Ghosts »

you know him - the President from "24", the guy on the Allstate commercials, etc.

but, until this moment (during a walk-about on the internets after reading the Commish's latest article (Mr. Haysbert was also in "Mr. Baseball with Tom Selleck) i had NO IDEA that he played Pedro Serrano in "Major League".

I know, this probably doesn't deserve it's own thread.

But it's the only way I know how to express how absolutely floored I am to learn this. I've probably watch that movie 2-3 times a year (and, strangely, get *more* chocked up by the end with every viewing) and it still doesn't seem possible that they are the same guy.

Holy crap, that's cool! First, because I had absolutely no idea that he played Serrano either. Second, because it confirms that people really do click through our Easter egg links! 8) 8) 8)

EDIT: I should also note that the latest article is not from me. It was submitted by John Willford ("TheFrozenRope" here on the forums). I just posted it for John since he doesn't yet have a homepage account.

See, that's how backwards I am. When my brother told me he was in 24, I said, oh, the guy from Major League? My brother looked at me funny then, too...

But Kiefer Sutherland, he no hit curveball

actually i like this thread and think we can have some fun with it. I know a lot of people who did not know about Cerrano but I would like to add a few more that people were shocked when I told them. For example some people did not know that Little Steven from the Estreet band is Tony Sopranos right hand man. Also some people were shocked when i said that Jimmy Fallon was in Almost Famous as the guy who gets the band an airplane. Also i pointed out that the Lee Emery ( the drill sergeant from full metal jacket was in Apocalypse Now as a helicopter pilot

The one that blew me away was the police captain on Monk was the psycho in Silence of the Lambs. My daughter made the connection for me, I never saw it. Of course I watch so little TV that I never would have picked it up. Corporate controlled garbage that dumbs down the masses if you ask me. And don't even let me get started on my FAUX "news" channel rant.....

Here's a Monk-related trivia for you (my wife picked up on this). In the early seasons, when you only see pictures of Trudy (Monk's dead wife), the picture is of the gal who plays Jan on The Office.

It took my wife a while to realize Dr. Cox from Scrubs was in Office Space...

I celebrate his entire catalog

What's funny is I keep thinking of him as Sgt. Red O'Neill from Platoon. Just a mildly different role for him... ;)

How about Private Pyle from Full Metal Jacket? He's now the detective on Law And Order Criminal Intent. I never put that one together myself either. I know his name is D'onofrio or something to that effect. Again, shows how much TV i watch.

Indeed; for my money it doesn't get much better than when Michael Bolton sings "When a Man Loves a Woman."
