San Juan has a new General Manager, again. The Coqui hired J.D. Caldwell to the post this week. Caldwell comes to Puerto Rico having seven years of managerial experience with the New York Goths of the Universal Baseball Association and the Seattle Mariners in the 1980s.
The Coqui are currently in second place in the Trans Atlantic Division with a 28-23 record and on a seven-game losing streak. Caldwell will fill the vacancy left by the previous GM who was hired just a month ago but left abruptly. Caldwell also has experience as the General Manager for the Portland Buckaroos of the Supreme Inter-Continental Hockey League.
While sipping on a margarita, Caldwell stated, "The PEBA is definitely a step up from the UBA or the Mariners. It's like I just stepped off the plane onto Fantasy Island. Where is that Tattoo anyway?"
Word on the street that Caldwell is a salsa and reggae fan. That should bode well for the stability of the franchise continuing to reside in San Juan with an organizational presence continuing in the Caribbean.
