An Old Face in a New Place

What makes someone the greatest of their generation? Is it their skill? Their demeanor? Their willingness to never give up? Or is it being such an endearing member of an organization for so long that no one that follows in their footsteps can ever replicate what they have done? Well, in the case of Rob Raines, I believe this to be such in all cases.

Let’s take a moment to look at what Rob Raines categories currently leads in career stats;

Career Games: 2,923

Career At-Bats: 10, 510

Career Runs: 1,778

Career Hits: 3,026

Career Total Bases: 5,280

Career Singles: 1,920

Career Walks: 2,226

Career WAR: 99.0

On top of these career stats, he also currently leads the Arlington Bureaucrats in the following categories:

Games Played: 2,355

Hits: 2,485

Home Runs: 470

Finally, for the stats nerds, let’s see his career slash line

.288/.414/.502 with an OPS+ of 155 with 568 HRs, 1686 RBI, and 1 Stolen Base.

As for his hardware, he has 3 MVPs, 1 All-Leather Award, 12 All-Star Selections, 1 Platinum Stick Award, a PEBA Champion, and 2 League Championship MVP Awards.

For someone to play as long as he did, he has an impressive resume. So, to us here at the Bureaucrat’s Triplicate, we do hold Raines dear in our hearts as the GOAT.

But we’re not here to wax poetic about someone who dedicated so much time and effort into what he did for our team. No, in fact, we have received leaked information that the Bureaucrats General Manager Justin Barker wants to place Rob Raines as the hitting coach for the new-ish Rookie League Cairo Pharoahs. His legendary patience as a hitter, noted by his astronomical walk rate, could do those kids some good, as they finished their 90-game season 15-75, with 781 strikeouts (23rd in the IBC League) and 162 walks (26th in the IBC League). With Raines’ guidance, they can improve or at least we here at the Triplicate believe so. There’s never been a time in history when such a great hitter took up a coaching position and couldn’t relate to his players. Never, no. Just please ignore that whole Ted Williams thing...

If this leaked information is true, then we may yet again see Rob Raines in a Bureaucrats uniform, a treat for older fans who could teach their newer fans who this GOAT is. We wait with bated breath for it to come to fruition.
