Tim Hernbar - Oh are we voting? Now if only I could get this type of turnout to a showing! A review of all the entrants into the contest should be had before I come to a decision. Has anyone seen that chap Sam?

Ezra Aferlaus:

I don't know if it is the right person, but taking out someone is the right call. I'm glad we are all being so pro-active.

Hopefully he's a bad guy... Wolf hunting is so exciting!

Harold Rannom, FAIA, RA, CCM: Rich, what do you say to defend yourself? I have no idea whether you are a werewolf or not, but unfortunately this is a process where silence (or relative silence, since everyone has spoken up once) is rightfully interpreted as potential guilt. And even if it's not guilt, a quiet townie is no help.

Look, brother, I started this movement to put you to the sword-test, but if you can provide me with some reason why you should be spared, I'll do my best to head them off and find a more suitable test-ee for night one.

Speak up, and if you have something sensitive you'd rather share privately, feel free to meet me in the confessional over there. I'm no priest, far from it, but there are some strange things afoot that probably ought not be shared in the presence of any of the wolves in townie clothing that we're trying to stamp out.

Ezra Aferlaus:

Something I will point out:

For all of you out there who have not yet voted, but now have the opportunity to cast the deciding vote, not doing so will look awfully suspicious.

Since we have no real information to go on at this point, taking out the wrong person is both likely and easily defensible. We will probably lose one to the wolves tonight, and possibly one to ourselves. But we at least have a chance at taking out a wolf.

If we do nothing, there is a very good chance we lose one and no chance to take out a bogie. Being a person who allows that to happen is very suspicious in my book.

Sarah Dysioni: Tick tock... tick tock goes the clock. Where are you Richy? Things are so getting jittery. The wolves are out to get us and we have no friggin' leads. Gosh, what are we to do? I'm no ditz. I know the popular thing to do is follow the crowd.

If I guess wrong... then I am so sorry Rich. But it is better you than me. I am too pretty to like suffer this fate.

Vote: Rich Gloins (Knights)

Brett Jonasco: Seems like I've been stuck in rooms with people trying to kill me forever. I've learned a few lessons during that time. Don't say, "I'll be right back," 'cause you won't. Bring a change of underwear. Always suspect the quiet ones. And if you don't vote, you die.

Put it all together and I'm left with having to vote against Rich, and with kicking myself for forgetting to bring extra underwear.

<to Rich Gloins> You still have a few hours to say something in your defense. We're reasonable people; we'll listen. But if you're just going to sit in the corner there, scribbling away at your notepad, then I'm sorry, but my vote is going to stick.

As the day wore on, people began to argue about
the best course of action for the day.

"We got a little bit of hope," Brett Jonasco declared.
"Like a soap on a rope, but getting thinner
by the hour... falling fast!"

Image

Marty Canoon did his best to ignore him.

Dowlon stood up at the front of the room.
"Well, folks!" he said holding up the dagger.
"Have you come to any sort of conclusion?"

Image

Everyone looked around the room and their
gaze landed at the back.

Image

"How about him?" someone suggested, pointing at
the sleeping Rich Glons, who was singing quietly
to himself in his sleep.

"Driving all the way from Albuquerque
Living on Funyuns and beef jerky..."

"Sounds good to me," everyone said eventually.

Sam Riethar and Harold Rannom carried Glons
to the fore.

Image

Ezra Aferlaus saw this as his opportunity.
"It's obvious, Larry, that Rich is a werewolf!"

"How do you know?" Dowlon asked.

"He's been asleep all day," Ezra explained.
"He's avoiding the sun! He's sure to wake up at
night and then find one of us in the dark, whereupon
he'll sink his fangs into the back of our necks
and suck the life out of us."

"Isn't that what a vampire does?"

"Larry," Ezra spoke plainly. "It's obvious."

"It's a dreamlife..."

"Well, we won't kill him in here," directed Dowlon.
"Let's head out to the garden."

Image

"Busking all the way from Sarasota
Chasing mini thins with cherry cola ..."

"Are you sure you don't want to wait for him
to wake up?" Dowlon asked as he led the procession.

"No!"

"Yes!"

"Maybe?"

Finally, the group agreed to wait until dusk.

***

Glons lay on the bench overlooking the river.

"Hitching all the way from Minnesota
Sunflower seeds in your scotch and soda ..."

"Mmm, sunflower seeds..." Brett drooled.

When Glons still did not wake, Dowlon raised the dagger.

Image

"I hope you've chosen wisely!" Dowlon cried,
and then he brought the dagger down upon his victim.
