Meet an Ocelot. This is Ming Ruan, he was our first free agent signing when I took over RGV. He was an international free agent who had no stats, but worked pretty well so far. We still have three arbitration years we can keep him around for.

May 19, 1983

Jones, 6-1 3.27, takes the hill for RGV. Vargo, 1-4 5.98, starts for Chicago.

A two out rbi single by Moran in the top of the first gives Chicago the early lead, 1-0. A two run double by Fa in the bottom of the 2nd puts RGV in front 2-1.

Bishop hits his 1st Hr in the top of the 4th, a 2 run shot that puts Chicago in front 3-2. A two out rbi double by Lines in the 4th makes it 4-2 Chicago. A wild pitch brings home a run for Chicago in the 5th, and another run comes home on a sac fly, 6-2. With 2 outs in the 5th, Miller comes on in relief.

The Ocelots load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the 6th, and Jewell doubles two home to make it 6-4. A two run single by Flores ties the game at 6. Cisneros on to pitch for Chicago.

A two out two run single by Martin in the top of the 7th puts Chicago back on top 8-6.

With one out in the top of the 9th and a runner at first, Schurman relieves Miller.

Hernandez on to pitch the 9th for Chicago. An rbi single by Fa cuts the deficit to 8-7. Suarez follows with a 2 run HR, his 9th of the year, and RGV pulls out the win.

May 20, 1983

Williams, 4-2 4.32, starts for the Ocelots. Fugazzi, 6-2 4.04, starts for Chicago. C Brousse, who has an 18 game hitting streak going, is getting a much needed day off.

Leon hits his 4th HR in the bottom of the first to give RGV a 1-0 lead. With the bases loaded and one out, a balk brings home another run, 2-0. A sac fly by Becerra makes it 3-0. A two out rbi single by Suarez in the 4th makes it 4-0.

An error by the catcher Olvera on a stolen base attempt allows a run to come home for Chicago with two outs in the 5th. 4-1 RGV. Lines hit his 14th HR of the season in the 8th, a 2 run shot that cuts the lead to 4-3. Ruan comes on in relief with no outs in the 8th. With 2 outs, Moran ties the game at 4 with his 2nd HR of the season.

With one on and one out in the 9th, Gutierrez relieves Ruan.

Olvera singles home the winning run in the bottom of the 9th for RGV.

Patterson, 2-1 3.92, will get the start here for RGV, just his 2nd of the season. Pitts, 6-2 3.24, starts for Chicago.


With 2 on and 2 out in the top of the 6th of a scoreless game, Sanchez relieves the tiring Patterson for RGV.

Flores triples with one out in the bottom of the 9th. To that point in the game, the teams had combined for a total of 3 hits. Fajardo is given the intentional walk. Jewell strikes out. Becerra walks to load the bases. Hernandez on in relief for Chicago. Fa pops out to first to end the threat.

Schurman comes on to pitch the 10th for RGV. Moran leads off the frame with a triple. A sac fly by Martin makes it 1-0 Chicago. The Ocelots go down quietly in the bottom of the 10th.

Garcia, 4-1 3.35, takes the hill as RGV travels to Gotham. Morales, 1-1 3.73, will start for the Giants.

Flores hits his 8th HR of the season, a 2 run shot, in the first, and it's 2-0 Ocelots. Morales has to leave with a blister after an inning, Velasco on in relief to start the 2nd for Gotham.

Jewell hits his 2nd HR in the 3rd, 3-0 RGV. A one out rbi single by Fa makes it 4-0.

Beck leads off the bottom of the 4th with his 3rd HR to get Gotham on the board.

A leadoff walk in the 5th ends the night for Velasco, Dixon on in relief for Gotham. An rbi groundout by Flores in the frame will make it 5-1.

Walker hits his 3rd HR in the bottom of the 5th, cutting the RGV lead to 5-2. Pacheco follows with his 3rd HR, and it's 5-3. A 3 run triple by Walker in the bottom of the 6th gives Gotham a 6-5 lead. A wild pitch sends Walker home. Garcia departs trailing 7-5. Miller on in relief.

An rbi single by Flores in the top of the 7th cuts the deficit to 7-6. Martinez ties the game at 7 with an rbi single.

Ruan comes n to pitch the bottom of the 7th. With one out and a runner at 2nd in the 8th, Gutierrez comes on in relief.

With 2 out in the 10th, van der Mijl on to pitch for Gotham.

With 2 on and 2 out in the bottom of the 10th Schurman relieves Gutierrez. An rbi double by Beck in the bottom of the 11th wins the game for Gotham.

A sac fly by Fajardo in the top of the 4th cuts the deficit to 2-1. Cordova hits his 2nd HR in the top of the 5th to tie the game at 2. Gonzalez hits his 3rd HR of the season, a 2 run shot, in the 6th, and RGV is on top 4-2.

A two out rbi double by Pacheco in the bottom of the 6th cuts the lead to 4-3.With a runner at 2nd and two outs, Miller relieves Nicoletti. Ruan comes on to pitch the 7th.

With a runner at first and 2 outs in the 8th, Ramirez relieves Louis for Gotham. Gonzalez greets him with his 2nd HR of the day and 4th of the season, a 2 run shot that make it 6-3. A two out rbi double by Olvera makes it 7-3.

After Brooklyn's third error of the game, Caldwell single home a run to make it 8-1.

Cordova hits his 3rd HR of the season in the bottom of the 5th to cut the deficit to 2-1. A two run double by Martinez in the bottom of the 6th puts RGV on top 3-2.

With one out and one on in the 7th, Patterson relieves Garcia. With one out in the 8th, Becker comes on in relief. With a runner at first and no out in the 9th, Ruan comes on in relief for RGV. With one out, Castillo hits his 3rd HR of the season, a two run shot, and Brooklyn leads 4-3.

Sanchez on to pitch the bottom of the 9th for Brooklyn. With one out, Suarez delivers a pinch hit HR, his 10th HR of the season, and the game is tied at 4.

With runners at the corners and two out in the bottom of the 7th, Boyd comes on in relief for Brooklyn.

A leadoff single in the 8th finishes Gutierrez. Schurman on in relief. With the bags loaded and one out, Miller relieves Schurman. A 6-4-3 double play kills the threat.

A bases loaded walk to the pinch hitter Suarez forces home a run in the bottom of the 8th, 5-1 RGV.

Olvera hits his 1st HR of the season, a 2 run shot, in the top of the 7th, and RGV leads 2-1.

A leadoff single in the bottom of the 7th ends the night for Nicoletti. Schurman on in relief. With a runner at third and 2 outs, Sanchez comes on in relief. With one out in the bottom of the 8th, Patterson comes on in relief.

With one out and one on in the top of the 9th, Gonzalez comes on in relief for the Bronx.

A lead off double in the 9th ends the night for Patterson, on comes Pyon in relief. Two singles later, the game is tied at 2.

A bases loaded one out walk to Flores in the 10th puts RGV back in front 3-2. Becerra follows with an rbi single and it's 4-2.

Becker, 3-1 2.55, gets the start for RGV. Love, 7-4 2.52, starts for Garden St.

An rbi single by Caldwell in the bottom of the first opens the scoring, 1-0 RGV. A two out rbi single by Flores makes it 2-0.

With two out and a runner at first in the 2nd inning, Becker has to depart with a sore elbow. Schurman on in relief for RGV. Schurman pitches 5.1 innings of no hit ball, but after a 57 minute rain delay in the top of the 8th, Ruan comes on in relief.


King comes on to pitch the 8th for Garden State. An error by the SS Lopez with two outs leads to an unearned run, 3-0 RGV.

Quite an outing by the bullpen, pitching 7.1 perfect innings not allowing a single base runner after the departure of Becker in the 2nd.

Jewell hits his 4th HR of the season in the bottom of the 6th, a 3 run shot that ties the game at 3. After an 18 minute rain delay in the frame, Murillo comes on in relief for Garden St with one out.

With 2 out and a runner at 2nd in the 7th, Patterson relieves Gutierrez.

Becerra hits his 7th HR of the season in the bottom of the 8th, a 2 run shot, and it's 5-3 RGV. With runners at 2nd and 3rd and 2 out, King comes on in relief of Murillo for the Bennies. After a walk, Leon connects for his 5th HR of the season, a Grand Slam, and it's 9-3 RGV.

Miller on to pitch the 9th for RGV. A two out rbi double by Pineda cuts the lead to 9-4.

Well pitched game by both pitchers, and Silva comes on to pitch the 9th for Fort Worth. Flores and Brousse single to lead off the 9th, putting runners at the corners. Caldwell hits a sac fly and the game is tied at 1. Gonzalez follows with an inside the park home run, his 9th HR of the season, and it's 3-1 RGV. Brown on in relief for Ft Worth with one out and the bags empty.

Sanchez on to pitch the bottom of the 9th for RGV.

With one out and one on in the bottom of the 6th, Patterson relieves Williams. Back to back errors load the bases for San Antonio. Fitgerald hits into a 3-6-1 double play to end the threat.

Parker triples to lead off the bottom of the 7th, and Sanchez comes on to relieve Patterson. Shankle greets Sanchez with an rbi double and the lead is cut to 3-2.
