While much attention goes to the A-Rods and Johnny Footballs of the sports world, Mike Trout just quietly does his thing. Has this kid ever bragged to the press, dissed a teammate or gotten into trouble? Not that I'm aware.
Trout comes to Philly tonight, his first professional game at Citizen's Bank Park. He grew up in South Jersey following the Phillies and Yankees. When the Phils were in the World Series in 2008, he was in high school, and he went to Game 5 -- but didn't have a ticket and couldn't get in! He and his friends just partied in the parking lot.
This graphic was in the local paper this morning:
It will be great to follow his career.

Re: The Mike Trout thread
After my Jays just lost three of four to the Angels, I say, you can have Trout! Glad to get them out of Toronto.
He's in a bit of a slump in May and only had a couple hits in the Toronto series, but they were all big run-producing hits at pivotal points of the game.
Trout/Pujols is quite a scary 2-3 in the lineup. Throw in Aybar at the top who the Jays just quite simply couldn't get out and it was a recipe for disaster.
Definitely a beast of a player though.

Reminds me how good Joe D was before WWII. He crushed all those guys by like 20+ HRs while still hitting .335. Different eras, sure. But he even smoked A-Rod in the middle of the steroid era (though clearly more juicing was still to come).

That's some pretty impressive company!!! The trick will be sustaining it for the long haul. Thanks for sharing this Mike. Being almost exclusively a NL guy, I'll have to keep an eye on Trout more.

The two things that stood out to me were Joe D's home runs and Trout's stolen bases. He fits comfortably in that group. It'll be interesting to see how he maintains his skills as he ages. He's already at his peak, so how long will it last?
