Re: New Car Shopping
All the advice helped a lot helping me put things in to the proper context. So I figure, I owe the group a resolution.
I took the plunge tonight and bought a new Ford Focus. The rebate programs are pretty aggressive ($3,000), so I probably won't wind up paying much more than I would have for a lower mileage used one. So its a decent deal to get the best years out of the car. All told, I got out the door for about $16.5k. The down side is that I'll have to initially finance through Ford at an unattractive interest rate, but I can refinance those away quickly in a month or so. Plus I get free oil changes at the dealership, which is nice.
I still feel a little wasteful, but the numbers make sense once you realize there is no escaping the cost at the mileage I'm using. Anyway, thanks for the guidance.

Nice Kevin! The Focus is a really solid car. It'll be fun to hear how it works out.

That's got to be a great feeling for you, Kevin. Congratulations on your purchase. Let us know your thoughts on the Focus after you've had some time to drive it. Some of us may profit from your experience.

Re: New Car Shopping
Congrats! I know my dad loves his Fords (he likes the Focus but has larger vehicles at the moment). Hope it's a great car for you.
