September 7, 2007 Weekly Recap

#1 Post by Ghosts »

Item! Roy Benthall, Bears 2b, is from the island of Malta. Reliever Mathys Crete shares a name with the island of Crete. We've checked with the league office and confirmed that if the Bears are able to sign a player named (or from) Sicily, they will be the first team in major league history to have players with a connection to the three major islands in the Mediterranean Sea on their roster at the same time! How about that!

Bears fans were furious this week when newcomers Joe Parks
and Chance Tidwell took the advice of veteran Jack Cobb when choosing intro music. Anyone who has seen a game at Jonas Field is all too familiar with Jack Cobb's choice of Air Supply's "Making Love Out Of
Nothing At All" as his intro song when it is his turn to bat. The crowd was visibly upset having to listen to Parks' choice of Air Supply hits "Two Less Lonely People in the World" and Tidwell's Air Supply choice of "Lost in Love". Rumors that Cobb is planning to switch to ABBA's "Dancing Queen" next season have not yet been confirmed.

The Bakersfield Bears were proud to recently honor Cleveland Indians legend Bake McBride at a recent home stand (where they were swept by Aurora). Bake, a former Rookie of the Year, disappointed the Bears when
he admitted his name had nothing to do with Bakersfield and that he had no idea why he was there. Former Indians Sid Monge, Dan Spillner and Victor Cruz were in attendance.

One quick scheduling note: the Bake McBride bobble head night scheduled for September 27 has been cancelled.
