Round Up 2 – Road to the Pennant

#1 Post by Apollos »

CL was 6-2 on the week. Strong pitching and timely hitting was key to success this week. Attendance was up for the home series.

Tempe Series
CL 7 – Tem 6. A 14 hit attack including 4 hit by Pace and 4 hits by red-hot Marquez. CL manager Wayne Kedsch showed moxie allowing rookie right-hander Frank Montoya to complete the game and earn his 5th save.

CL 2 – Tem1. Jackson scattered 7 hits over 7 innings striking out 8 while walking just one batter. CL won the game on Morales dash to the plate after Kent’s line single. The pen was again superior. Howard’s 14 hold and Shepherd’s 5th save nailed down the victory.

Tem 7 – CL1. No contest here. Tempe jumped all over Sparling and put this game away early. The CL bullpen was the only high light. Montoya and Martinez struck out 8 while walking none, allowing a run on 2 hits over 5 innings of work.

Canton Series
CL 8 – Can 2. Returning home, Anderson delights the fans and finally gets run support as CL bangs out 16 hits in an 8-2 rout. Everybody in the line up but Christian had at least 1 hit. Pace and Marquez continued hot hitting led the attack. Rookie Frank Coronado had 3 hits.

CL 7 – Can 4. Scot Christian who seemed to leave his bat at home in the first game was the hitting star. His 3 run homer in the bottom of the 9th, his second of the game was big blow. After pitches hit O’Donnel and Kent, Christian unloaded for the game winner.

CL 4 – Can 0. In front of 34,700 fans, Steward pitched a gem to earn his 12th victory. After 6 innings of shutout work the bullpen finished it out. Pace’s run scoring single in the first was the game winning hit.

Yuma Series
Yum 4 – CL 2. After scoring 2 in the first the CL bats fell silent. Jackson was not able to hold the lead and he could not get out of a jam in the 3rd, which cost CL 3 runs. Yuma’s Smith handcuffed CL hitters for his 8th win of the season.

CL 7 – Yum 1. A nice bounce back for Sparling who got his 12 win. He pitched shutout baseball through 7 while striking out 8. CL’s 5 run 2nd put this one away.
