Bayou Brief: Tanner stepping down

9/1/2020-

With tGM Paul Tannerhe Trendsetters continuing to struggle, dropping 9 of their last 10, there have been many questioning the direction and future of the organization. Few thought that it would lead to the resignation of one of the longest tenured general managers in PEBA. But in front of a small group of reporters, Tanner announced his plans to resign at the end of the season, or earlier if Cobb found a suitable replacement over the last month of the 2020 season. Tanner won the Rodriguez cup once with the Trendsetters and was the first gm to take his team to back to back Rodriguez cup series. The early years were the golden years, with 4 straight seasons finishing above .500. Unfortunately, the next 9 the script was flipped and the winning ways lost. Tanner has held different roles within the PEBA hierarchy including a stint as the now defunct position of Imperial League president.

“I would like to thank Jack Cobb and the Trendsetter organization for the amazing opportunity I have had to run this tremendous baseball team for the past 14 seasons. I have gained lifelong friends and countless memories whose value cannot be calculated. I will be a Trendsetter fan for life, but it is time to let some one else take the helm and guide this time into the new territory of expansion as the PEBA grows next season, ” Tanner read from a prepared statement.

Cobb has indicated that a search for a suitable replacement was underway and that Tanner would maintain general manager duties until a replacement was found or the season is finished. The Trendsetters have consistently had one of the best offensive teams this season, but their inconsistency in pitching has been the Achilles heel. If things continue on the same trend the team will once again be picking high in the draft in order to obtain more top tier talent.
