A Fan Letter

Dear Gloucester Fishermen,

I have been a fan of baseball for almost a century. I had been through the rise and fall of many baseball associations. I have outlived so many things, but I am actually afraid that I might not outlive the current horrible representation of baseball from my favorite team. As a Gloucester local, born and raised in this beautiful city, it had always been my dream to have a local team to support. I was a happy man back then in the 2010s era, I stuck to the team when it went out of PEBA, and I am still here with you all since the return.

However, I, truthfully, feel like the current baseball being played on the field is just not repaying my loyalty to the team. And I had to double down on my dosage of high blood pressure medication as I write this letter. It’s a pain to watch the past few years of Fishermen and I don’t think the blame’s on the players. I understand the need for rebuilding and the struggle in terms of the talent gap when the team returned to the best league in the world. But still, this extended period of bad baseball is too much for us fans to endure. Or at least, for me. I wanted to see the Fishermen lift a championship before my trip to another world, but that seems like it is going to just be a dream at this point. Your management team is not giving me any confidence in getting my dream fulfilled before my frail body gives up on me. On some level, I feel like I have so much will to stay alive because I want to see this team turn around — but as I think more of that, I cannot help but re-live all the horror the team had given me in the last few years.

So, for the sake of the Holy Lord of Heaven, or whatever Fishermen God you believe in, utilize the young core of the team to their fullest and try to be competitive as soon as possible. I don’t think we drafted too bad in the past few years, nor do we have development issues. I believe our team simply doesn’t know how to utilize our young players very well. That and we somehow refuse to spend money on any veterans. Please stop taking our money for granted and expecting us to attend the games whenever you keep giving us such a horrible experience. We want to see the team win, and we believe the team can truly achieve so much more. Yet, it seems that every one of you in the management team wanted the team to lose.

Even if we are a losing team, I do believe we can achieve 70-80 wins at the very least, and not an endless loop of 50-60 wins every season. I truly believe that the team can achieve so much more with proper management. We have so many good self-developed players like Norishige Ito, Jorge Salazar, and others that I don’t think I have to write them all out. If you cannot see which players are great without me telling you, then I have nothing to say about your lack of understanding of greatness!

Sincerely,
I am not giving my name but I love the team!
