Tempe and Crystal Lake Strike A Deal
The Tempe Knights and Crystal Lake Sandgnats made a 2 player swap on Wednesday. The Sandgnats sent 26 year old relief pitcher Jose Paz to the Knights for Outfielder Matt Carter. Both players welcomed the trade and are feeling great about this upcoming season. The Sandgnats needed a slugger to fill out the corner outfield position. The 28 year old Carter averages 21 home runs, 91 RBI’s and a .276 AVG per 162 games. If he stays healthy, he will be a solid addition to Crystal Lake’s already stout power hitting lineup. The Sandgnats had to give up Jose Paz in the deal, which is a welcome relief(no pun intended) to the Knights bullpen. The 26 year old righthander will compete for the closer spot in the bullpen with 25 year old Raul Cruz and 23 year old rookie Luis Puente. Paz has a career 2.44 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and an opp batting average of .199 in the majors.
