Front Office Follies

In the offices of WV
GM Abcarian pounds his fist down on his keyboard and throws his phone across the room. Feeling absolute rage, the vein on his forehead bulging out, GM Abcarian gestured to the door to dismiss Scouting Director Ed Eubank.
“How do we pay this idiot $310,000, and he cannot sign the right Free Agent. I said there is a 24-year-old OF that is a free agent, here is his name (Roberto Yanez) go sign him to a minor league deal. So, what does Ed do? He signs Roberto Yanez, but some 39-year-old guy. A player who has been in the Mexican league since 2030, after the Omaha Cyclones (Go Cyclones) let him go. Now nothing against Roberto, he has had a nice career out in Mexico and maybe, 5 years ago it would have been a nice signing. How do you mistaken a 39 year old guy with a 24 year old guy?” GM Abcarian ranted to owner Lan-quing Li Jr.
“Good thing it was only a minor league deal, or I would take it out of your paycheck,” Lan-quing Li Jr. said with a sly grin.
“Ed get your ass back in here…”GM Abcarian yelled.
As Ed walked in with his head bowed down, he fretted the worst.
“We aren’t going to fire you for this because as Mr. Li said it was a minor league deal, but we are going to make you give the 39 year old Roberto Yanez the news of him being released because of your mix-up. One more thing, you owe me a new phone,” an exasperated Abcarian told Eubanks.
“All I can do is apologize and promise it won’t happen again. I’ll go tell Roberto not to unpack and go pick you up the new phone.” Ed said as he left the room to cut Roberto.
“I wonder if he will sign the right guy this week?” GM Abcarian asked Mr. Li and as he gave him a blank stare, Abcarian knew what he needed to do next.
“Eubank, get your dumbass back in here.” yelled GM Abcarian.
Walking in the office door again, Eubank looked utterly confused as to what was wanted of him now. Was it now he was getting fired? Maybe being told to keep Roberto. What could it be?
“Yes, Mr. Abcarian, “said Ed.
“We just wanted to make sure it was implied that you go out and sign the correct free agent. After this last mix-up, I am definitely not going to assume, you understood it was implied.” GM Abcarian explained.
“Thank you for the directions, I will go do my best to get him to sign a contract with us.” Ed replied and then hurriedly left the room.
