Evas and Calzones complete epic 32 player trade.

As the dust settles on another busy off season in Shin Seiki, we can finally look back and assess and there is a lot to assess – first and foremost the traffic between the Evas and the Calzones.
Some might look at the 6 trades, which vary from inconsequential to league shaking and see chaos. I choose to see order. I choose to see one deal – a single unified and epic 32 player deal, the likes of which PEBA may have never seen before. So let’s break it down!
Part 1 – There and back again: 2 Players
These guys wound up back where they started. Did they learn any important lessons? Did they slay the dragon? Did they make any friends along the way? I don’t have the space to explore these issues.
Part 2 – Going, going gone (from the Evas, at least): 22 (yes, twenty-two) Players
- OF Alfred McCutcheon (PEBA)
- 2B Norm Leseberg (PEBA)
- IF Logan Malone (PEBA)
- 1B Jesus Sanchez (ML)
- P Sebastiaan de Roode
- P Juan Vargas
- DH Harrison Jesty (PEBA)
- RP Everton Wallwin (AAA)
- RP Bartolo Torres (AAA)
- P Victorio Guerra (AA)
- IF Hisashi Takeuchi (AA)
- CF Maresuke Kobayashi (AA)
- LF Fred Hanson (AA)
- P Cameron MacColl (AA)
- CL Teo van den Broek (A)
- SP Eduardo Morales (A)
- 2B Ben Malise (SA)
- LF Brian Morris (SA)
- P Kinnosuke Honma (R)
- RF Francisco Gonzáles (R)
- ARL’s 2041 1st round pick
- PS’s 2041 2nd round pick
Now that’s a list. It represents the bulk of the value that SS acquired by punting on the 2040 season – including top prospect IF Hisahi Takeuchi and the #1 overall pick in the 2041 draft. 2040 2nd round pick Fred Hanson and OSA #95 prospect CF Maresuke Kobayashi stand out, but they are by no means the only good prospects. But there’s just too much for me to dissect here. Suffice it to say that the SS system is not about as barren as it was heading in to 2040.
Part 3: Why the Evas did all of this: 8 players
- OF Hector Ramirez
- SP Johnny Arthur
- LF Kinnojo Miyake
- 3B Leon Aguilar (PEBA)
- RP Ash Thompson (PEBA)
- SP Pedro Delgado (AAA)
- OF Herman “He-Man” Hill (SA)
- P Jesus de Los Angeles (SA)
- $800,000 Cash
Obviously Arthur is the headliner. His becoming available is what changed the course of the Evas plans. They had planned to inch back towards contention in 2042 when Takeuchi and company would be ready for the show. But the possibility of adding a top of the line starter changed that. Ramirez is the other reason for the deal. He lacks the glove to stick in CF long term, but he has a great bat and should anchor a corner OF spot for years. Hill is a fun wild card. He could be a 40 HR guy, even if he hits .220. Miyake, Aguilar, and Thompson should be contributors, but aren’t likely future All-Stars. Delgado and de Los Angeles are decent prospects, but likely MR’s at best in the future.
So the Evas are now back to being playoff contenders, their motivations are pretty straight forward. But why would the Calzones make these moves? My sources aren’t as good in San Antonio, but here’s what I have been able to glean.
Rumor has it that the SA front office moved their contention window start target from about 2043 to a TBD later date because 2 major reasons. First and foremost, a particular transformational prospect is in the cross hairs of the Calzones front office, and they decided that it was worth starting over to get him. No, I don’t know who it is. I just know they are dead set on acquiring him.
The second reason I am hearing has to do with back and forth negotiations between SA and the PEBA Headquarters. I am guessing these deals are an attempt to meet some sort of criteria, but I don’t know what. I’ll leave it to others to speculate.
The Evas are certainly better now than heading in to 2041. How good? We’ll see. I love talking trades, but I am exhausted. Time for some actual baseball!
