Rocky Medina to Mentor Young Arms at Bridgeport

Longtime New Orleans Ace Jorge ‘Rocky’ Medina did not enjoy a very long retirement. After calling it a career following the 2038 season, Medina agreed to become the Pitching Coach for the Trendsetters’ Rookie League club, the Bridgeport Flying Fish.
Said Medina, “I don’t play golf, I liked traveling the Caribbean and I was driving my wife crazy at home, so this seemed like the best way to spend my time. Plus, I have always liked tutoring young pitchers. Not only on the mechanics of pitching, but on how to prepare and act like a big leaguer.”
Medina will report to Litchfield Park, AZ in early February when pitchers and catchers report and work with the player development department to devise a development program that could help the Trendsetters mature some home-grown arms.
“Pitching has been a weakness for this club over the years. The team is generally at or near the bottom of the league in pitching and no pitching prospects have been able to translate potential into big league success. We think a proven big leaguer like ‘Rocky’ will help these kids start out on the right track and hopefully the rest of the farm system can keep that development going.”
Since the 2037 season the Trendsetters staff has finished 16th, 15th and 14th twice in staff ERA. There are few young prospects on the the way up outside of Hyung-on Che and Li-zhu Ho.
Medina spent his entire career with the Trendsetters after being picked #9 overall in the 2022 draft. Medina compiled a 125-122 record with a career ERA of 3.24 and a career WHIP of 1.10. Medina was also a two time All-Star and came in 3rd for the Golden Arm award in 2030.
