Former SP McBride to Lead Mahi-Mahi
The Scottish Claymores continued with their annual off-season media day with GM Sean Bain introducing former SP Eddy McBride as Manager of the SA Maui Mahi-Mahi.
“Eddy has been a great teammate and leader throughout his career. He’s been a guy that we’ve had on our radar for sometime. West Virginia always said he was someone that would be a good leader someday. Someone other players look up to, and follow his lead. A guy that was going to give everything he had, and that really resonated with his teammates.” – GM Sean Bain
McBride took time after his retirement in 2028 to be a dad, husband, and son but got the itch to manage after leading both of his son’s high school team to a state championship.
“Getting to coach my boys and their friends has been such a great opportunity. I’ve gotten so much out of this experience from being around these guys, and I’m excited for the opportunity to take this next step in my career after my playing career. My wife wants me back out of the house too.” – Manager Eddy McBride
The Decatur, IL native didn’t take too much nudging to take the reins in Maui, but who would right? Near perfect weather, and right on the beach would be hard to pass up. McBride cautioned those distractions might be the toughest part of the job.
“My challenge as a Manager is always going to be about limiting distractions, and obviously off the field we have some here. How do you handle that? Lots of sunscreen. I want our guys relaxed off the field on their own time, and all-in when we are together. You gotta have a life away from the game, and I was victim to not doing that during my career. This is a fun game, and I want the guys to enjoy the ride.”
McBride joins veteran Hitting Coach Ollie Morris and Pitching Coach Antonio Lopez in guiding the Mahi-Mahi this season.
“I want to learn everything I can from these guys. Ollie has been around the game forever and is a legend in teaching guys how to hit. Antonio is just getting into coaching, but brings a more relaxed approach and helps balance us out. It’s going to be a fun ride with these guys this year.”
