Introducing the Florida Farstriders!

[The scene opens with a small podium situated on top of a pitcher’s mound. The scene is dark, save for spotlights that beam a circle around the mound. In the background, a large jumbotron reads “Are you ready?” From stage left, Drew Streets emblazoned in the usual Florida Featherheads winter meetings regalia of a Hawaiian shirt takes the stand.]

Hello! Welcome to our special announcement here at Streets Casino and Holdings Field. I am Drew Streets, the owner of the Florida baseball club. It’s been one of the joys of my life getting to watch this team grow and change over time. The Featherheads have always been one of the premiere franchises in PEBA and we hope to continue that trend heading into 2032 and beyond. One of the ways that we want to continue to represent our club and PEBA as a whole is by giving our club a… facelift.

While the Featherheads moniker is as storied as our team, we have been left with an uncomfortable with how it is being taken. As a resident of our great country, we cannot ignore the iniquities and sentiments that have plagued this nation since its inception. While we respect and honor the native tribes of this land, we felt that the name was imparting too much negative attention on the club that had been shedding much of its past history as time had gone on.

It is for that reason that we look to the future that is bold and exciting. We sought input from across PEBA and from our fans. We considered this matter incredibly carefully – to find a name suitable to replace something that so many people found meaning in.

And so, after years of searching, we are ready to reveal the new face of the Florida franchise. I present to you… The Florida Farstriders!

[With this, the center field screen lights up with the logo of the Florida Farstriders, depicting a space helmet with a ship heading away from earth which predominantly displays Florida. Pyrotechnic displays light up around the outfield wall as all manner of sparkler and fireworks explode into long streams of phosphorescent reds and blues. Luppe van Dam, Juan Acosta, Yosuke Morimoto, and recent signing Bartolo Mora walk from stage left and right, sporting the new Farstrider uniforms.]

What is a Farstrider? A farstrider is someone who reaches beyond the normal grasp of humanity – they seek and explore to push humanity into the next epoch. They look beyond the normal bounds of our sight and pushes beyond. With our neighbors at Cape Canaveral, the Farstriders were an obvious choice as our new team name.

We want to thank the PEBA community for the voting that took place as the season wound down. Your input was essential as we looked at several options. At the end, Farstriders didn’t actually win the popular vote, but after some feedback by none other than the legendary John Rodriguez, it became more clear that Farstriders fit within the spirit of the league and best encapsulated the modern spirit of our home state.

We are blazing a path to the future with exciting prospects and impossible to miss moments. Our young, talented core will captivate fans with their unique personalities and skills. We look forward to bringing you the next generation of Florida Farstriders baseball!”

[With this, the camera begins an upwards climb as the stadium lights burst on. The camera pans down, revealing a giant Farstriders logo emblazoned across center field, then slowly pans upwards to the heavens before fading to black.]
