Doyle Buhl Stadium Gets a Facelift
2/12/2017: Duluth, MN – Renovations to increase Doyle Buhl Stadium’s seating capacity are nearing completion. The Warriors front office fully expects the stadium to be operational in time for the start of spring training. “We are excited to have 5,000 more fans in the stadium this season,” explained GM Bill McKenzie. “Last season was truly magical and the atmosphere in Doyle Buhl was amazing. We sold out nearly every game and we expect the extra capacity to allow more fans than ever to experience Warriors baseball.”
Most of the additional seats are part of the family seating area in right-centerfield. This area will be alcohol-free, and fans 14 and under will receive a coupon for one free hot dog. “We hope the family seating will make the game more accessible to our younger fans,” said McKenzie. “My promise to the city of Duluth is that these seats will remain affordable for families.” That apparently does not apply to the rest of the seats, as the average ticket price is expected to increase by one dollar.
Along with the additional seating, the renovation will include the new Arne Bong Memorial Park and Monument Gardens. The new area between the bullpens in centerfield is expected to be unveiled on Opening Day and will include a memorial to the late owner of the franchise. Additionally, the Monument Gardens will honor players inducted into the Warriors Hall of Fame. The first members will be added prior to the game on Opening Day with the induction of the two greatest Warriors: C Pat Holman and SS Miguel Cortéz. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to honor Pat and Miggy in the Gardens,” beamed the team’s general manager. “I can’t think of two more deserving players. They have been the lifeblood of Warriors baseball for over 10 seasons now.”
