Warriors Announce “Eeyore Day”
5/6/2013: Duluth, MN – The Duluth Warriors are happy to announce a string of promotions to celebrate members of the 2013 team. The first such promotion will take place on Sunday, May 12th against rival Fargo and will honor DH and PEBA rookie José Pérez, acquired this off-season in a trade with the San Antonio Calzones of Laredo. In his short time with the club, the charismatic Pérez has become both a team and fan favorite. And of course, the 6’5” lefty from Acapulco, Mexico has a very unusual nickname he picked up as a small child back in Mexico – “Eeyore”.
“Growing up, mi abuela always read me books about Winnie the Pooh and the Hundred Acre Wood all the time,” explains Pérez. “Turns out, my first word was actually ‘Eeyore’ – not ‘mamá’ or ‘papá’ or ‘galleta’ like other little boys. I guess I liked him a lot. Of course, as I got older and bigger, the name stuck because I was strong as a donkey.”
So the Warriors have proclaimed next Sunday “Eeyore Day”. The first 10,000 adults at the game will receive a special edition digitally-signed baseball card of Pérez, specifically designed for the occasion. Also, the first 10,000 children 12 and under will receive Eeyore ears and tails to wear throughout the game to support the Warriors’ player. Finally, the gang from the 100 Acre Wood will all be there for photo opportunities and to provide entertainment for the whole family.
