AURORA, CO (AP) — Aurora Borealis owner John Rodriguez, Sr., who suffered a stroke last month, was released today from the University of Colorado Hospital after three weeks of hospitalization. The 87-year-old fitness mogul was seen entering Northern Lights Park in a wheelchair pushed by his son and Aurora Vice President of Operations Christopher. Also escorting his father was son John, Jr. as well as Vice President of Business Ulderico Alfero.
Reporters were unable to speak with Rodriguez, Sr. His son John, Jr. issued a brief statement explaining that his father is doing well and intends to watch Game 2 of the Planetary Extreme Championship tonight from the owner’s box. The Borealis have scheduled a press conference tomorrow afternoon, at which time they intend to make “a significant announcement about the future direction of the club”.
There has been speculation in the media recently regarding how the health of Rodriguez, Sr. would impact both the Borealis and the PEBA. In addition to owning the Aurora Borealis, Rodriguez, Sr. also acts as Commissioner of the PEBA, North America’s largest and most successful baseball league. League officials have been handling commissioner duties in Rodriguez, Sr.’s absence. It is unknown at this time if Rodriguez, Sr. will now be resuming those duties or if tomorrow’s press conference will be addressing his future role with the team.
Aurora will be trying to even the series at one all tonight. New Orleans took the first game of the PEC 10-5. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM EST.
