* So far GM Kevin Lewis has been pretty pleased with Florida's performance. .500 ball is where he expects the team to hover around considering this team remains relatively unchanged from last season. He's been particularly pleased with Richardson's leadership and Kwang-chih Zhu's continual improvement. Although only 1 game above .500, Lewis is happy to see the team play much better than their record would indicate. This can be seen with some of the team's rankings in the Imperial League:
3rd in Batting Average (.256)
1st in Slugging (.441)
4th in ERA (3.34)
1st in Bullpen ERA (2.62)
* Miguel Soto is quickly becoming a fan favorite amongst Florida fans. Fans on the third base side have been seen putting up signs declaring that section of seats as the "Boom Boom Room". Known for his loud bass and music, Soto has certainly been bringing the “boom boom” to opposing pitchers. Off to a fast start, Florida's leadoff man is punishing the league with a blister .347 average and .422 on base percentage. Lewis was quoted to say he had nothing to do with the signing. What modesty shown by Florida's new GM.
* Although still early in the season, there has been grumblings within the organization that the Featherheads need to do something about their defense at the hot corner. Starting 3B David Goode has already accounted for 4 errors on the season. Florida personality Nelly has been on a crusade to blast Goode's defensive performance. Nelly has been quoted as saying that Goode cannot even catch the common cold, let alone a baseball.
Florida manager Jaime Sánchez has toyed with the idea of playing Richardson at third. Sánchez has been quoted to say that his son plays the PEBA the baseball video game on his Xbox. According to the video game, Richardson is rated a "95" at third base. So why not try him at third? GM Lewis has even considered bringing up Keith Goslin or Wade Ferguson from AAA if the situation does not improve at third base.
* Speaking of call-ups, there is a good chance that a pitcher may be brought up to replace Alfonso Contreras in the rotation for a start. Contreras has been battling back spasms and is day-to-day. His status is still unknown for his next start but indications seem to be doubtful.
Closing Comments: I must congratulate Mark Richardson for his volunteer work at the charity date auction. He will follow through with his commitment and go on a date with the winning bidder, who happens to be old enough to be Richardson's grandmother! Fans are clamoring that our website show his pending date but Richardson has gone on record to nix the idea. We'll see if we'll be able to convince Richardson to allow crews to film the date. After all, Drew Streets has promised the fans that they will get an in-depth look at this year's captain as part of promoting the game to baseball fans.
