Reno, NV: Reno Zephyrs First Baseman Ramon Leach has accomplished a feat that only 12 players before him have accomplished.  In a slug-fest of a game the Zephyrs lost 8-7 to the Shin Seiki Evas but in the first inning of the game Leach put a charge into a fastball from Jaun “Onion” Castro that sailed into the stands for leach’e 300th career home run.  While reaching the 300 home run mark is an impressive feat on its own, it particularly special to Zephyrs fans that he hit all 300 in a Reno uniform.

“I just wanted to get a good swing on the ball,” Leach said following the loss.  “I really wasn’t thinking about hitting a home run.”

When you look at Reno’s team history, Leach is the all time leader in may offensive categories.  The thirty-two year old ranks first in career slugging percentage, OPS, WAR, games played, at bats, runs scored, hits, total bases, doubles, triples, RBI, stolen bases, walks, hit by pitch, strikeouts, and of course, home runs.

“We just flat out love the guy,” Zephyrs manager Eugene Brown said.  “Every time a team has come calling about a trade involving Ramon, we have told them we are not interested.  Our goal is to have him play his entire career in Reno.”

Leach has had an interesting career to date.  The former first round draft pick of the Kentucky Thoroughbreds was traded to Reno back in 2015.  Reno sent their 1st, 2nd and 3rd round draft picks in exchange for Leach and infielder Kurt Keller.  Leach burst on the scene as a twenty four year old rookie the very next year and took home the Rookie of the Year Award.  His greatest season to date was his sophomore year in the league where he hit 50 home runs and stole 42 bases, accomplishing the impressive feat of becoming a 40/40 guy.  He has had some ups and downs along the way and hasn’t quite been able to match his sophomore season.

This year he is on pace for 32 home runs and could possibly reach 100 RBI.  If he does hit the RBI mark, it would be his seventh 100 RBI season.

Leach has one more season on his contract and could be a free agent in 2026.  He will be 34 years old by then, it is unclear what kind of contract he will be able to land but, you can be sure the Reno Zephyrs will be in the mix.
