The Boise Remuda did just enough to secure a victory over the Portland Chinook, 5-4, at Kauffman Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Jesús Merlano. Merlano got the win, improving to 8-2. He allowed 5 hits and walked 5 over 8.1 innings. Merlano allowed 4 runs. Hyo-cheong Pak was credited with the save for Boise, his 2nd of the season.

Boise relied on the hitting of Tiburcio Penela to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Remuda on top, 5-4. For the game, Penela had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"I was able to get good plays made behind me," Merlano said. "And I was able to make pitches when I needed to make pitches."

The second-place Remuda have a record of 32-21.
