Bowen Leads Evangelists to Win
|
The Notre Dame Evangelists bested the Illinois Chiefs, 7-3, at Evangelists Ballpark. Ken Bowen was one of the standouts. He went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Norris French came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 4 innings. His record now stands at 4-1. Earning his 1st save of the year was José Espinoza.
The Evangelists got an important contribution from second baseman Luis Salcido, who in the bottom of the sixth hit a 1-1 fastball into left for a 2-run double. It was his 6th double of the season and put the Evangelists ahead, 6-3.
"We'll savor this win," Bowen told the Notre Dame Observer, "then get ready for the next game."
Notre Dame has a record of 19-28, placing them 7th in the Eastern Seaboard Conference.
