Farstriders Snatch Late Win
|
The Florida Farstriders topped the Amsterdam Lions by a score of 5-3. Leading the way was third baseman Vito van Wondel. van Wondel was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Farstriders. The Farstriders, at 31-8, have a comfortable 14-game lead in their division.
van Wondel had a timely hit for Florida in the bottom of the eighth. With Amsterdam trailing 3-2, he turned a 2-2 fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 16th home run of the season, making it 5-3, Florida.
"The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," van Wondel told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
