The Birmingham Bears beat the Nassau Vulcans, 2-1, at Vulcan Field. Starting pitcher José Barrera was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. In 6.2 innings, Barrera surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. The win puts the Bears at 34-44, while the Vulcans drop to 37-41.
Birmingham used the timely hitting of Julian Parrish to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Bears on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Parrish told the Birmingham Observer.
