Kings Spoil Great Performance by Simons
|
Ikari first baseman Oscar Simons pounded Red Deer Kings pitchers at Ikari Grounds, but it was not enough to keep the Warriors from falling, 10-8. Simons went 3-5 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 5. Dave Cleare, now 1-2, was credited with the win. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. The Kings, at 11-43, sit in last place in the Pacific Alliance Wild Rose.
Had Rafael Gutiérrez not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Gutiérrez hit a 2-run single. That made the score 8-6, in favor of the Kings.
"We'll sip on a cold one and savor this win," said Gutiérrez.
