Dykes Spank Thunder, 12-0
|
Wes Bernard impressed in the 12-0 Den Bosch win over Youngstown. Bernard, who is tied for 3rd in the ATAL with a .394 on-base percentage, was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Karel Rietkerk was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed no runs on 2 hits, with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. Choon-mo Kim, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 3rd save.
It could have been a different outcome for Den Bosch, had it not been for Andrew Cannon, the 24-year old second baseman . Cannon contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put Den Bosch up, 2-0.
"The Dykes definitely had our number," said Youngstown manager Al Goudie.
The Dykes, at 75-33, have a comfortable 18-game lead in their division.
