The Monterey Sea Lions beat the Omaha Insurers by a score of 6-0. Monterey shortstop Brooks Thomas deserved the lion's share of the credit. Thomas went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Sea Lions. Will Hawkins, the winning pitcher, improved to 5-6. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 2 hits and no runs, while striking out 5 and walking 6. Monterey currently is in last place in the Atlantic Alliance South at 29-62.
Danny Martin had an important at-bat with one out in the top of the third, when he hit a 2-run home run. His 6th home run of the season put Monterey on top, 3-0.
"They played a better game than we did," said Omaha skipper Tetsu Konishi.
