Wind Dancers Deal Codgers 4-1 Defeat
|
Toyama starter Dave Costello pitched well against the Palm Springs Codgers at Elderberry Field. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-1. Costello, now 1-2, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Earning his 6th save of the year was Hideo Miura.
Toyama used a well-timed hit by Yic Li to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Wind Dancers ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Costello. "Successful pitchers do it."
The Codgers fall to 8-14 and continue their uninspiring start to the 2039 season.
