Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Yeosu HS Porpoises home opener. Gilbert Mersch started for the home team against Sugimoto Goto for the Tokoha Gakuen Kikugawa HS Jiten. The Porpoises were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 1-0, Tokoha Gakuen Kikugawa HS. Sugimoto Goto, though, was impressive. Goto, now 1-0, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 2, walking 0, and allowing no runs. The save went to Shinzo Goto, his 1st this season.
Tokoha Gakuen Kikugawa HS relied on the hitting of Takao Samurakami to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Jiten on top, 1-0. For the game, Samurakami had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Yeosu HS skipper Brad Graham.
