The Aberdeen Golden Sands beat the Leeds Locomotives, 8-2, at Gold Street Park. The Golden Sands got a fine performance from third baseman Butch Ellis, who was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Horiuchi Shimizu notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. His record now sits at 4-8. Aberdeen now sits in 4th place in the Appalachian Mountain League Europe and Islands at 38-64.

Ellis contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Aberdeen in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Ellis took a fastball from John Leckenby and stroked the home run to center. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Golden Sands to leap in front, 2-1.
